Help address hunger’s root causes at the Highmark Walk

crowds of people at the Highmark WalkA hungry community is not a healthy community. Hunger takes a toll on adults and particularly children, leading to chronic physical and mental health conditions. Even brief periods of poor nutrition aggravate existing health problems.

And in under-served low-income neighborhoods where people have low fresh food access, obesity rates rise – as do all the health problems that obesity causes.

We hope you’ll help raise awareness about how addressing the root causes of hunger is critical to improving long-term health. Please join the Just Harvest team for the 2018 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community!

We will be walking with our supporters on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Stage AE. This year, the Walk will benefit 78 health and human service organizations, including Just Harvest. The 2017 Pittsburgh Walk for a Healthy Community raised $430,848.

About the event

Participants will have two lengths to choose from: the 5k, which starts at 8:00 a.m., or a 1k “Fun Walk” which starts at 9:00 a.m.

There’s also the 0k! If you can’t make it to the event or aren’t physically up to participating, you can still help raise funds as a “virtual” walker.

You can walk as an individual as part of our team, or create your own team by inviting your friends and family to walk as well. Please tell your donors that their gifts are tax-deductible and a receipt will be provided.

And starting in April there will be “flash challenges” throughout the month for you to win raffles for your efforts as well. These include gift cards for amusement parks, groceries, gas, and more!
