Farm Fresh Produce in Southwestern PA

This list includes farmers’ markets and farm stands in the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) has a directory of Pennsylvania family farms, farmers' markets, Community Supported Agriculture farms (CSA's), u-pick farms, restaurants, grocers, caterers and bakers, bed & breakfasts, and other businesses that sell locally grown farm products at www.buylocalpa.org. A searchable list of all agriculture-related businesses, including farmers’ markets, across Pennsylvania is at www.agmap.psu.edu.

Markets begin opening in May, but because food is grown locally and it can still be cold and rainy through May in Western PA, produce items are limited in the beginning and more become available each week. The same process happens in reverse at the end of the season in October and November. Markets have the most food and the most farmers from July through September.

FARMERS MARKETS IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY

Using your WIC and Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) Vouchers

All markets on this list have at least one farmer who can accept FMNP vouchers. Many farmers accept the vouchers, but a few cannot, so ask the farmer or look for a sign if you are in doubt. Your checks may only be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables grown or growable in Pennsylvania. Farmers cannot give change if you do not spend the entire $5 value of each voucher.

Seniors can contact the Area Agency on Aging at 412-350-4219 or your local Senior Center about receiving FMNP vouchers. Eligible WIC recipients receive FMNP vouchers with their WIC checks in the spring.
