YEAR-ROUND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES

VOLUNTEER TEAMS!

Want to help out, but can’t commit to a regular volunteer schedule? Join one of our volunteer teams and we’ll let you know about opportunities as they come up.

SPECIAL EVENTS/FUNDRAISING TEAM:  Do you like helping with event planning, throwing house parties, soliciting silent auction items, or event set up and decorating? Sign up for the special events team and you’ll be among the first to know about our upcoming events and ways that you can get involved!

OUTREACH TEAM:  Want to learn more about hunger issues and programs? Like talking to individuals or groups of people? Sign up to join our Outreach team and we’ll train you on how to represent Just Harvest at community events.

ADVOCACY TEAM:  Speak truth to power! Learn more about welfare policies & programs through our trainings, and then tell decision makers about their importance and ways that they can strengthen the safety net.

MAILING TEAM: Help us reach our members with newsletters, action alerts, and other mailings! Sign up to be part of our mailing team.

MEDIA RAPID RESPONSE TEAM: Help respond to critical policy issues in the media through blogging, writing letters to the editor, and using social media.

WELFARE JUSTICE VOLUNTEER LEADER

Are you passionate about strengthening the safety net? We need you to help tell local, state, and federal legislators and administrators the REAL DEAL about our current safety net programs (such as food stamps, cash assistance, LIHEAP, etc) and how they can make them more accessible to ensure that or families, friends and neighbors are not going hungry. YOU can make a difference by attending actions, planning campaigns, and helping to organize our communities.

SNAP/ FOOD STAMP PROGRAM ASSISTANT

We help around 100 people each month apply for SNAP/food stamps and overcome barriers that keep them from accessing these very important benefits. As a volunteer for this program, you can help people everyday access these benefits that help them keep food on the table. Food stamp program assistants:

  • Assist with follow-up calls to clients and answer frequently asked client questions
  • Fax client information to the Department of Public Welfare
  • Enter result data into a database
  • Keep all client information confidential.
Available Hours: Weekdays between 9am and 5pm

 OFFICE ASSISTANT

You can assist with the smooth and successful operation of Just Harvest by:

  • Greeting visitors and maintaining professional appearance of office
  • Answering and routing phone calls and providing information and referrals to incoming callers.
  • Performing clerical work including data entry, photocopying, faxing, filing, purchasing and tracking supplies, collecting and routing incoming mail, compiling and mailing information, clerical and office support to staff, and other duties as necessary. 
 Available Hours: Weekdays between 9am and 5pm

TAX SEASON VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Our free tax site helps around 2,000 low-income households get their full refund without all of the prep fees from commercial agencies. Last year we put over $4 million dollars in the pockets of low-income individuals.  You can help make this tax season another HUGE success by being a client greeter or appointment scheduler at our tax site!

Tax Client Greeters:

·         Greet tax clients as they come in.

·         Help clients fill out forms and get their paperwork ready.

·         Discuss other Just Harvest programs with clients.

·         Assist with data entry or other tasks as needed.

Available Hours: Weeknights 5- 8pm & Saturdays 10am-4pm


 Tax Appointment Schedulers:

·         Assist with preparation of tax campaign outreach material for mailings and distribution

·         Answer and return  a high volume of phone calls and providing information to potential clients

·         Enter information into our computerized scheduling system

·         Document phone calls on our call record forms

·         Perform clerical work including data entry, filing, compiling and mailing information, and other duties as necessary

Available Hours: Weekdays 10 am-8pm, Saturdays 10am – 4pm
