Details about Just Harvest's May 2 Annual Member Meeting and Primary Election Candidates ForumJoin Just Harvest and the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council for a special three-part event at the Brookline Teen Outreach Center on May 2.

6pm-7pm: Just Harvest’s Annual Member Meeting. You’ll hear about our recent progress on reducing hunger in Allegheny County. Current members will be eligible vote in our Board election.

7pm-8pm: A debate between May 16 Primary Election candidates for Pittsburgh Mayor. Incumbent mayor, Bill Peduto will face challenger Rev. John Welch. (A third candidate, Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Darlene Harris, has not yet responded to our invitation to this event.)

The debate will be moderated by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Chris Potter, who will pose questions to the two candidates regarding community food access and economic justice in Pittsburgh.

8pm-9pm: Candidates in contested races for Allegheny County Council, Pittsburgh City Council, and Pittsburgh School Board will address the following policy questions in a non-partisan candidates forum.

  • As an Allegheny County Council member, what will you do to prevent and fight food insecurity and hunger in your district? In your answer, please address: government accountability, basic human needs, racial equity, and healthy food access, including barriers which create food deserts.
  • As a Pittsburgh City Council member, what will you do to prevent and fight hunger and food insecurity in your district? In your answer, please address: government accountability, basic human needs, racial equity, and healthy food access, including barriers which create food deserts.
  • As a PPS Director, what will you do to improve the well-being of low-income Pittsburgh children? In your answer please address: child nutrition and equitable development (including affordable housing).
