Save the Date: Our 27th Annual Harvest Celebration Dinner

Teresa Younger of the Ms. FoundationWe are thrilled to announce that the keynote speaker of this year’s Harvest Celebration Dinner on October 22 will be feminist leader Teresa C. Younger, the president and CEO of the Ms. Foundation for Women.

Since 1989, the Harvest Celebration Dinner has been Just Harvest’s signature event, bringing together hundreds of supporters and community leaders to celebrate our victories in the fight against hunger and poverty in our region.

Teresa Younger has long been a tireless advocate on the frontlines of some of the most important battles for women’s health, safety and economic justice. She is a tireless advocate and well-respected feminist leader.

Prior to joining the Ms. Foundation for Women, Younger most recently served as the executive director of the Connecticut General Assembly’s Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, where she was instrumental in campaigns that resulted in state legislation to raise the minimum wage and provide paid sick leave in Connecticut.

A noted speaker, advocate and activist, she has been recognized by many organizations for her commitment to women’s health, safety, and economic justice. She was named to the Older Women’s League Hall of Notables and honored by Planned Parenthood Federation of America as a 2015 Dream Keeper, among other honors.

Just Harvest and the United Steelworkers are proud to honor Teresa C. Younger with our 2015 George and Jane Becker Memorial Award.

Casa San JoseThis year’s Seeds of Justice awardee will be our allies at Casa San Jose, a community resource center that links Latino neighbors in need with service providers and other resources in order to advance their integration. As an outreach of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, Casa San Jose strives to create a welcoming community for Latino immigrants by providing opportunities for their civic and social engagement.

The Seeds of Justice Award is presented annually to individuals or organizations that make extraordinary contributions in advancing Just Harvest’s mission to eliminate hunger and poverty.
