Just Harvest Board of Directors:
- Sr. Barbara Finch, President --
Active in myriad organizations in the Pittsburgh area which work for peace and justice, including Pax Christi, the Thomas Merton Center, Pennsylvanians Against the Death Penalty, and Association of Pittsburgh Priests. Sr. Barb works as a registered nurse and is a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
- DeWitt Walton, Vice President --
Special Assistant to the President of the United Steelworkers of America. DeWitt has been active with the A. Philip Randolph Institute and the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.
- Mary Elizabeth McCarthy, Secretary --
Volunteer at the East End Cooperative Ministry food pantry and at Dollar Energy. Mary Elizabeth is on the Board of Directors of St. Charles Lwanga Pastoral Council Deanery of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and has taught religious education for grade school children for many years.
- Eunice Nelson, Treasurer --
Formerly a social worker, Eunice is also retired from a career as a City of Pittsburgh Police Officer. She belongs to the NAACP and the National Black Police Officers Asosciation, and is active with the Women's Center and Shelter and Race for the Cure.
- John Becker --
One of our most reliable volunteers, John Becker has been part of Just Harvest since testifying at a welfare hearing we organized in 1993. He worked in parking lots, as an assembly technician, and as a bicycle messenger, until he got hurt. Now on disability, he lives on South Side and volunteers regularly at the Just Harvest office. What he likes about his work here is that it’s a chance to participate in democracy. He was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board in May, 2007.
- Alex Carlisle --
Marketing Representative with First Health Coventry. Also on the Boards of Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund of Western PA and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc, East Central Province.
- Maureen Coyne --
Former health care administrator. Maureen is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the American College of Health Care Administrators. She is active in her Hazelwood community and in her childrens' Parent Teachers Group
- Rachel Freund --
Rachel is Public Education Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Association of Mental Health Consumers. She got to know Just Harvest through the Just Vote campaign in 2004, when we worked together to make voting more accessible to people with disabilities. She's enthusiastic about bringing new energy to the board, and furthering a bridge to the mental health community.
- Marie Lee --
Marie is a secretary at Penn Hills Senior High School, and was elected to the Just Harvest Board at our 2007 Annual Meeting. She is president of the Missionary Department of the Faith Center Church of God in Christ where she also facilitates Thanksgiving baskets for families in need and orchestrates dinner vouchers at Christmas time. Along with good managerial skills, Marie plans to bring a faith-based, compassionate perspective to the board.
- Dr. Daniel Marston --
Is a clinical psychologist with a full-time private practice. Dan specializes in helping individuals with the psychological impact of poverty, job loss, financial changes and other stressors related to economic conditions. He had personal experience dealing with these stressors following his own job loss several years ago. He is also a writer and presenter on topics related to the psychological impact of economic issues. As a business owner, Dan’s specialization is running a business on a “shoestring budget.” His hobbies include reading, exercise and beer.
- Eric Meyer --
Eric has been volunteering at Just Harvest for several months and very much enjoys interacting with the JH staff and other volunteers. He is looking forward to learning more and contributing by serving on the Board. Eric is beginning a Masters Program at the CMU Heinz School of Public Policy, where he will concentrate on learning about and evaluating public policy that affects low-income people in America. He recently served in the Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan where he worked with an organization which gave loans to small business people.
- Ken Munz --
Ken has extensive experience working with Homeless and Housing organizations in the San Francisco area. He worked as a consultant and also directed a large clinical case management program there. He arranged a partnership with San Francisco Redevelopment to purchase housing for non-profit ownership and orchestrated neighborhood approval of two housing program sites. Ken’s advocacy experience includes input into legislation at all levels. For 6 years he was Vice President and Administrator for the Society for the Preservation of the Duquesne Incline in Mt. Washington. He’s currently the owner of an information technology company on Pittsburgh’s Southside.
- Mike Stout --
Long time labor activist and organizer. Board member of the Steel Valley Authority and the Battle of Homestead Foundation. An active and prolific musician, he is principal owner and business manager of Steel Valley Printers, an employee-owned union print shop.
- Sr. Betty Sundry --
Director of Social Concerns for the Sisters of Divine Providence. Sr. Betty has been a volunteer tutor with the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council and a hotline volunteer at the Crisis Center North.
