We’re hiring: Tax Project Manager

Just Harvest is seeking a skilled and committed professional to manage our free income tax site operations at four locations in Allegheny County.

Job Title: Tax Project Manager
Job Status: Non-Exempt, Part-time
Reports to: Free Tax Program Coalition Project Director
Positions Supervised: None

Essential Functions:
 Demonstrate and reflect the mission and values of Just Harvest
 Coordinate Just Harvest’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites
 Oversee multiple Just Harvest tax preparation locations
 Recruit and interview seasonal staff of reviewers and site coordinators
 Set tax staff schedule
 Manage tax employee onboarding and administrative matters
 Ensure tax staff complete training and time sheets
 Coordinate with host sites to confirm dates, set up technology and address any changes for upcoming season
 Manage positive community relationships with host sites along with site coordinators
 Order supplies for all tax sites
 Organize and deliver supplies and assist with site setup at satellite sites
 Manage site set up at Just Harvest office site
 Create volunteer nametags, sign ins and calendar for all JH sites
 Schedule and manage greeters at all JH sites
 Carry out a reviewer shift at each satellite site each week to ensure oversight and quality control
 Coordinate and lead communication between JH sites: share best practices, new ideas, new problems, supplies, check in with staff and volunteers
 Address new challenges at sites with site coordinators
 Manage off-season client assistance and information inquiries
 Check tax return data weekly to ensure that returns are being transmitted and that rejected returns are addressed in a timely fashion
 Assist site coordinators with tax preparation software problems, difficult tax questions and other concerns
 Collaborate with FTP Taxpayer Outreach Manager to coordinate outreach for JH tax sites
 Participate in national trainings to learn best practices and improve site operations
 Assist with tax project fundraising and reporting to funders
 Contribute to the Just Harvest communications activities
 Participate in Just Harvest staff meetings
 Complete other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required for the Position:

 Knowledge of federal income tax preparation
 Good mathematical skills
 Computer literacy, including competency with MS Office and tax preparation software
 Must successfully complete Just Harvest tax training and obtain advanced level IRS VITA certification

Working Conditions:
 Flexible work schedule including occasional evening or weekend work
 Demanding work schedule preparing for and during tax preparation season
 Small office setting with limited resources
 Occasional work outdoors
 Computer usage that requires repetitive motions
 Travel required to tax preparation sites
 With rare exceptions, job activities are sedentary requiring under 11-15 pounds of exerted force
 The job is at times fast-paced, with frequent deadlines

Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
 Prior experience at a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site

Compensation: This is a part-time (20 hrs per week) year round position. The pay rate is $20.50 per hour with health and paid time off benefits pro-rated to part time status.
