Reverse SNAP Cuts & Protect SNAP
House Agriculture Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson has released a proposed Farm Bill for full committee markup on March 3rd at 5 PM. We need your urgent help reaching out to Pennsylvania’s Congressman GT Thompson, to oppose the advancement of legislation that fails to protect and reverse harmful cuts to our nation's most critical nutrition program: the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
DC Office: (202) 225-5121
At a time where people across the country are struggling to feed their families, this proposed Farm Bill does not include the needed change to combat rising hunger in our nation. The proposed bill fails to reverse the $187 billion in SNAP cuts from the H.R.1 Bill, or delay SNAP cost-share requirements for states that are working to improve error rates. It also does nothing to address the rising SNAP skimming crisis.
At Just Harvest, we are hearing from individuals and families across our county that are victims of benefit theft, or have lost benefits to the new harsh work requirements that are pushing people off the program. Here in Pennsylvania alone, nearly 2 million people rely on SNAP to keep food on the table. SNAP also supports local economies, farmers, grocers, retailers – and boosts health.
Right now, Congress must urgently stand against the ongoing attack against SNAP. We need legislation that fights hunger, and defends the dignity of everyday people.
Call Script:
“My name is _________ and I live in ______, PA. I am calling to urge Representative Thompson to make amendments to the current Farm Bill text. The current Farm Bill as written in the agriculture committee does not protect SNAP recipients from benefit theft. It also does not correct the unfair and harmful cost share rules that weakened SNAP in the One Big Beautiful Bill.
This isn’t how Congress is to provide for its Constitutional duty of providing for the general welfare. If this farm bill text does not change, it will contribute to higher rates of food insecurity, and I would urge you to vote no to any bill that increases hunger.”
