Take Action: Protect the Social Safety Net this Hunger Action Month
Hi Friend, there is still time this Hunger Action Month to make a change in your community. Right now, our neighbors across the Pittsburgh area are preparing for changes to benefits, navigating benefit theft, and facing the daily challenge of not knowing where their next meal will come from. Pennsylvania has yet to pass the state budget, which means there is still time to advocate for a budget that protects our social safety net.
Take Action Today.
More than $10 million in benefits have been stolen from financially struggling families in the first half of 2025. When benefits are stolen, families cannot be reimbursed, and are left without recourse. Pennsylvania must take action by investing $7 million in the state budget for more secure chip EBT cards and equipment.
Watch our press conference on Ending SNAP Theft — where we were joined by Representative Abigail Salisbury, Representative Emily Kinkead and Congresswoman Summer Lee.
Take Action: Expand Healthy Nutrition Incentives in PA
Interested in making fruits and vegetables more affordable for Pennsylvanians – while also increasing revenue for local farmers and small businesses? Take action today to support Food Bucks – which connects SNAP shoppers at our Fresh Access Farmers Markets to even more nutritious food. Use our call script to call your state Senator and Representative to support funding for Food Bucks in the 2025-2026 state budget!
Changes to Benefits
Starting this month and through the fall, families and community members will begin to face harmful changes to SNAP benefits. Just Harvest has been joining with partners around the state to share information and materials about the changes that will alter access and change requirements for many.
It is expected that more than 143,000 adults across the Commonwealth will be impacted by these changes. Reach out to your elected officials today and demand they repeal these harmful changes and preserve SNAP, Medicaid, and other essential human services.
