Just Ideas: Ending SNAP Benefit Theft

Join Us for Just Ideas: Ending SNAP benefit Theft.

Join us on Friday, April 10th from 5:30 to 7:30 at the UPMC Neighborhood Center to learn more about the ongoing SNAP skimming crisis. Hear from our panelists on the impact felt by families, and the need for action.

Since December 20th, 2024, SNAP benefits have no longer been able to be replaced – leaving families with nowhere to turn in a time of need.

Panelists include:

  • Senator Jay Costa, Pennsylvania Senate Minority Floor Leader.

  • Justin King, Policy Director at Propel.

  • Sarah Read, SNAP Specialist at Just Harvest.

  • Sabrina Jones, Speaker on Community Impact.

  • Moderated by: Ann Sanders, Director of Public Benefits Policy and Programs.

Location: UPMC Neighborhood Center (6401 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206).

Tickets: $20 and can be purchased at give.justharvest.org/just-ideas-SNAP-Theft.

During this event, we will discuss the need for reimbursement of stolen benefits, and the transition to chip technology for EBT cards. Looking both to our state and federal leaders, we will be calling for an action plan that protects people from further harm or hunger.

As our neighbors face new changes to SNAP, there is an immediate need for the strengthening of our social safety net. We hear from families regularly who have experienced the theft of their benefits - leaving them without food, and without recourse.

Join us and learn how you can take bold action to protect victims from the ongoing crisis, and discuss next steps that we can take together.
