Protect PA Families from SNAP Theft
Hundreds of millions have been stolen from EBT households as SNAP theft remains a growing crisis across the country. The Pennsylvania Office of State Inspector General has received more than 5,100 reports of SNAP benefits theft totaling nearly $2.5 million in stolen benefits due to skimming. But today, we have one way you can take action to make a difference for families. The PA House recently unanimously passed HB 2540 – which would support the transition to chip-enabled EBT cards. Now, support is needed in the Senate.
Here’s what you can do today to protect victims of SNAP theft: Reach out to your Senators and share your support for this legislation: House Bill 2540.
Call Script:
Here in Pennsylvanian, more than $17 million in SNAP benefits have been stolen from financially struggling families.
When benefits are stolen, families are left with no recourse and are forced to choose between groceries and paying their bills.
The theft across Pennsylvania has also put an additional strain on food pantries, as SNAP recipients whose benefits have been stolen have nowhere else to turn.
Pennsylvania can solve this problem with more secure EBT cards.
I urge Senator [Name] to support House Bill 2540 to make the transition to chip-enabled EBT cards and protect families from SNAP theft.
