November News
Join us for #GiveBigPittsburgh and make a meaningful impact this holiday season for people who need extra support feeding their families across Pittsburgh and beyond. Approximately 2 million people rely on SNAP in Pennsylvania to keep food on the table – including about 1 in 8 people here in the Pittsburgh region. Your support is needed more than ever.

Important Updates
PA Budget Passage & Federal Government Shutdown Ends
After major delays for both the federal government and the state, Pennsylvania has passed a state budget, and the Federal government reopened after the longest shutdown in history. And while we have wins to celebrate–such as the inclusion of the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit and $2 million for nutrition incentives/Food Bucks in the state budget–there is still work to be done to address the ongoing dismantling of the social safety net. With an unprecedented delay in SNAP, the fear and confusion our communities have experienced is unacceptable. Learn more below about our ongoing campaigns and how you can get involved to support the continued fight against hunger.
Winter Farmers Markets
While most of our farmers markets just wrapped for the season, there are still two left where you can find all your holiday goods! And, our SNAP match is still available at select markets within the city of Pittsburgh. Stretch your SNAP further—thanks to the City of Pittsburgh's Food Justice Fund!
Changes to Benefits
Work reporting requirements and harsh time limits expanded to include adults ages 18-54 in households without a child under 14, including veterans and youth aging out of foster care. Due to the government shutdown and delay in SNAP benefits, USDA has issued guidance to states to not count November benefits towards participants' three month time limit. Those impacted now have more time to find ways to comply with the work reporting requirements to keep their benefits past January 1st.

Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit
“Just Harvest is thrilled that Pennsylvania included the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit in the 2025-26 budget, a policy we've been advocating for since 2007. This targeted credit will reduce the tax burden on working Pennsylvanians, some of whom pay PA income taxes while living below the poverty level. At this difficult time when SNAP and health care benefits are at risk for many low income workers, we're pleased that Pennsylvania has taken a step in the right direction by providing more.” - Kristie Weiland Stagno, Free Tax Prep Coalition Director.
Thank you for your continued support to Just Harvest’s mission to address the root causes of hunger.
